New Horizons Grant

The Erie-Huron-Ottawa Educational Service Center’s Governing Board has authorized another round of New Horizons Grants (NHG) and is inviting employees to submit project proposals. Grant requests may be up to one-thousand dollars ($1,000) per individual. Staff may partner on a project and ask for up to a two thousand dollar ($2,000) endowment.

Shining Stars

bullet Jeanne Lawrence and Mike Schwiefert for their work with the Firelands Challenge program. This season marks the twenty-seventh year of this competition which pits eighteen area high school academic teams in a "battle of wits." The challenge tests the mettle of some of the area's "best and brightest" students in the fields of mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language and literature.
   
bullet Edison High School for winning the 2008 Firelands Challenge and St. Mary's Central Catholic and Norwalk High School who tied for second.
   
bullet Paul Lockwood II for being presented with the Ohio School Boards Association's Award of Achievement. This honor is bestowed on school board members in recognition of their commitment to self-improvement, service to OSBA and work on behalf of their own board. Dr. Lockwood received his Award at the OSBA's regional spring conference in Bowling Green.
